A photo I took on my trip to South Africa was featured in an article for Time Out New York on decorating with photographs.

An update on HTML5

Zeldman is warming up to it, and you should too.

Death to the RFP

It’ll never happen, but we can dream right? I know Andy Rutledge is on board. I don’t often agree with Andy and some of his rants seem far too personal to be much more than the cantankerous ramblings of a small-business owner scorned. But on this one, Andy couldn’t have been more spot on.

Not only did he take on the tall task of explaining to non-creatives as to why RFPs are a bad idea and the appearance that reliance upon them gives off, but he also delved into the more important part. What to do instead. I always appreciate those who can provide suggestions and solutions with the problems they present.

Living in Legos

As a little kid I dreamed of living in a house built with Lego. Finally, someone did what I’d wanted to do for a long time, and built a Lego house for themselves. And just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, it turns out that this masterpiece belongs to none other than James May of the BBC’s Top Gear.

World’s best web designers

It’s pretty hard to argue with anyone on this list.

Non-Top Gear

The lads of the British automotive show Top Gear have done it again. What could be more entertaining than test driving a trio of state-of-the-art sports cars? Why test driving a trio of absolutely rubbish 30-year-old beaters of course. From their 2007 series, watching the gents put these jalopies through their paces never gets old.

The best online storefront

I imagine updating the products in this store could be a pain. But no matter how bad it is, it’s worth it, because this is just plain awesome.

Presidential tea party

The originality and creativity of their products is surpassed only by their copywriting.

A hot bath – just you and Barack Obama? A dream which comes true at last. Relax with a cup of tea in the bosom of the leading politicians.

And the award for best new Twitter feed goes to…

@shitmydadsays! Absolutely hilarious. Everyone should be so fortunate as to have a man like this in their lives. I guess now we all can, sort of.

Proper passwords

Some good advice on creating more secure and harder to guess passwords, that are still relatively easy to remember.

  • Substitute numbers for letters and vice versa. (o instead of 0, 4 instead of A, 1 instead of L, E instead of 3)
  • Substitute words for numbers (one, two , three…)
  • Combine both the of above (0ne, thr33, f1ve)
  • Use capitalization in random places (bLue, happY)
  • Use special characters ( !@#$%^&*(){}[] ) to punctuate and separate words
  • Create passwords out of words, numbers or phrases you’ll remember
  • Misspell words
