Paintbrush Javascript library

19 Aug

Dave Shea has created a “lightweight browser-based image processing library” that allows you to apply filters to images at the browser level. The idea is genius, pharmacy and the demos are beautiful. So now that we have the answer to the question “can we”, see now we must answer the question “should we.”

iOS icon template for Illustrator CS5

7 Jul

Thank you Mr. Hicks.

With the iPad and iPhone 4, mind there are as many, hospital if not more, different size icons to create for iOS than there are for desktop apps. While there are plenty of templates and reference sheets for Photoshop users (see Cocoia) I prefer to use Illustrator CS5 to create mine. So I’ve made my own template, and it’s available here if you find it useful too!

Prefix or Posthack

6 Jul

I’m generally strongly opposed to vendor prefixes purely because of the additional time/effort they require and their varied intricacies. But it’s hard to argue with Mr. Meyer on this.

We ought to praise vendors for using prefixes, and indeed encourage them to continue. Beyond that, I hold that prefixes should become a central part of the CSS standardization process. I do this not for the love of repetition, but out of a desire to see CSS evolve consistently. I believe that prefixes can actually accelerate the advancement and refinement of CSS.

Flickr realigns

24 Jun

Yahoo! has been slowly killing Flickr and driving away it’s core staff since the day they acquired the photo-sharing site in 2005. Yesterday they announced the single largest improvement in the site since the acquisition.

The new layout (which isn’t live yet) has some big layout and feature improvements. Can’t wait to see it in the flesh. Kudos.

Hicks’ site has always been a leader in form. But now it seems he’s taken the top spot in function too. The new fluid layout he’s implemented on his site is a thing of beauty.

Update: The plugin HeadSpace2 was wreaking havoc on my Edit Post pages and it’s WordPress Plugin Page confirms that it’s “broken”. After I disabled it everything was all good. And All in One SEO Pack can get the job done just as well.

Google search results

5 May

I know Google has been testing new search results layouts, but it appears that it might have gone live. That or I’m now a part of the testing pool.

Update: I guess it wasn’t just me.
