WordPress security issues

6 Sep

Like any popular and widely-used technology platform, WordPress is vulnerable to the determined, intelligent and malicious few that seek to expose security flaws for personal gain and pride.

Robert Scoble was one of the original targets of these attacks. Matt Mullenweg has posted on what the worm is and how to avoid it. Lorelle has a good summary of the problem and is keeping a good rundown of updates as they come through. TechCrunch reported on the threat. Mashable has some advice as well. Daring Fireball had some choice words for WordPress, but more questions than answers. Maciej CegÅ‚owski has a seemingly time-consuming and limiting, but more secure suggestion of his own. And John August why most people don’t bake their own bread and shouldn’t host their own blog.

WordPress is a big part of this site and many other projects I work on. So I won’t be casting it aside anytime soon. Microsoft Windows didn’t disappear out of fear after the ILOVEYOU virus in 2000, and I don’t expect WordPress will be going away either.

This nifty little site has a large library of applications that you can select from, then it will try to find you a similar application if you’re looking for something cheaper, for a different operating system or maybe one that just works better.
