South African Internet is slower than pigeons, literally
11 Sep 2009
An IT firm in Durban, South Africa used a carrier pigeon to transmit a 4GB memory stick. The pigeon took one hour and eight minutes to fly 60 miles and it took another hour to download the data to the company’s system. In that amount of time the Internet data transfer was only 4% completed. Predictably the ISP in question, Telkom, said they “could not be blamed for slow broadband services”.
